Tacodoc’s 05 Tacoma Build Thread
The Doc has been a long time fan of Toyota trucks and 4runners since a used 1979 Toyota Hilux 3/4 ton long bed truck. After that, he moved on to an ’88 4runner, and then a 2002 Tacoma TRD Prerunner Xtra-Cab.
His current vehicle is a 2005 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4wd Double Cab in Silver Streak Meca color with all of the available factory options. The 2005+ Tacoma is based on the internationally used Land Cruiser Prado 120 chassis.
Included in the build thread, (which is over 120 pages long!! ) is an exhaustive list of modifications done to the vehicle, as well as long list organized by state of trips taken in the Tacoma. There are also links to threads by Tacodoc, such as his detailed writeup of installing the Hilux Safari Snorkel, and a link to when his Tacoma expedition vehicle was featured in Overland Journal in Summer 2010.
Part way through his list of mods, Tacodoc started with an over-cab rack and an Eezi-Awn tent, before he went to the full camper – popup camper iteration of the build.
Now with a pop-top camper, here is a picture of the expedition Tacoma set up at camp near Striped Butte in November 2009
Thanks for taking the time to archive my build. I’d like to ask that you point the links here to this same build on my forum vice expedition portal:
